Trump Gives Dems Choice: Reopen Govt. Or Mass Federal Firings Are Coming

WASHINGTON D.C. — President Donald Trump has issued a severe ultimatum to Senate Democrats: Reopen the government within five days, or watch as the administration begins a campaign of mass, permanent firings across the federal bureaucracy.

"Handed It to Us on a Silver Platter"

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump framed the ongoing shutdown not as a crisis, but as a golden opportunity to "drain the swamp" once and for all.

"If this keeps going on, it’ll be substantial, and a lot of those jobs will never come back," Trump warned. "You’re going to have a lot closer to a balanced budget."

The President argued that by refusing to fund the government, Democrats have inadvertently given him the leverage to strip away "billions and billions of dollars of waste, fraud, and abuse."

"They’ve handed it, you know, to us on a silver platter," Trump declared.

The Sticking Point: Healthcare for Illegals

The shutdown, now extending into another week, hinges on a contentious dispute over healthcare funding. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and his caucus are demanding expanded Medicaid reimbursements for states that provide coverage to undocumented immigrants, alongside additional subsidies for the Affordable Care Act.
