Chapter 5: Learning to Live Again

Chapter 5: Learning to Live Again

The months that followed weren't easy.

Emily moved in with me full-time.

Some nights she woke from nightmares.

Some days she refused to leave her room.

A trauma counselor reminded me that healing isn't measured in weeks.

It's measured in moments.

The first time Emily laughed again was over something completely ordinary.

We were baking chocolate chip cookies when too much flour exploded across the kitchen.

For a second she froze.

Then she giggled.

Soon we were both laughing so hard we couldn't breathe.

It was the most beautiful sound I'd heard in years.

Slowly, the little traditions returned.

Friday pizza nights.

Sunday pancakes.

Movie marathons under oversized blankets.

Each small routine became another reminder that home could be safe again.
