Chapter 1: The Sunrise They Never Expected

At exactly 7:00 a.m., Andrew was pouring coffee when his phone vibrated.

Then another.

And another.

Within thirty seconds, every executive in his company was calling.

He answered the first.

"Andrew..." his chief financial officer said, his voice shaking. "Every corporate account has been frozen."

Andrew frowned.

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm looking at the banking portal right now. Every line of credit has been suspended. Payroll accounts are locked. Our investment portfolio is inaccessible."

Andrew's smile disappeared.

"Call the bank."

"We did."

"They said the order came from the controlling shareholder."

He laughed.

"I'm the controlling shareholder."

A long silence followed.

"No, sir."

"The controlling shareholder is Mariana Escalante."

The coffee cup slipped from Andrew's hand.

It shattered across the marble floor.

Upstairs, Brenda walked down the staircase wearing one of Mariana's silk robes.

"What happened?"

Andrew ignored her.

His phone rang again.

This time it was the chairman of the board.

"We're holding an emergency meeting in thirty minutes."

"You need to explain why the majority owner has removed you as acting CEO."

Andrew's face turned white.

"That's impossible."

"You own only twelve percent."

"The remaining shares have always belonged to Escalante Holdings."

Margaret walked into the dining room.

"What is everyone yelling about?"

Andrew looked at his mother.

"Did you know?"

"Know what?"

"The company..."

He swallowed hard.

"...was never mine."

At Escalante Headquarters, Mariana stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city.

The conference room behind her was filled with attorneys, auditors, and board members.

Her father, Alejandro Escalante, sat quietly at the head of the table.

He had never interfered with her marriage.

She had asked him not to.

But today was different.

"The transition documents are ready," the chief counsel announced.

Mariana signed each page without hesitation.

"The emergency board vote is complete."

"Andrew Sullivan has been removed as CEO."

"The internal audit begins immediately."

Her father finally spoke.

"You gave him every opportunity."

"I know."

"And now?"

May you like

Mariana looked toward the skyline.

"Now the truth belongs to everyone."
