PART 2 — “THE RECORDING THAT BROKE THE BELLAMY FAMILY EMPIRE”

The hospital room was silent except for the rhythmic beeping of the monitors.

I stared at the ceiling, feeling the weight of everything that had happened pressing down on me. The pain in my stomach was unbearable, but the pain in my heart was worse.

Five years.

Five years of swallowing insults.

Five years of pretending Vivian Bellamy’s cruel words didn’t matter.

Five years of convincing myself that Daniel’s apologies were enough.

“She doesn’t mean it,” he would always say.

“She’s just hurt.”

“She lost a lot after my father died.”

But grief did not excuse cruelty.

And cruelty did not excuse violence.

I turned my head slowly toward Daniel.

He was sitting beside my bed, still wearing the same tuxedo shirt from the anniversary dinner. The white fabric was stained with my blood. His face looked destroyed.

Not angry.

Not defensive.

Destroyed.

“Claire,” he whispered. “I don’t know what to say.”

For once, I believed him.

Because there was nothing he could say.

His mother had attacked me.

His mother had tried to hurt our children.

And there was no explanation in the world that could make that disappear.

The doctor had barely left the room when two police officers entered.

“Mrs. Bellamy?”

I nodded.

One of them stepped forward.

“I’m Detective Harris. We’ve been informed there was an incident at Bellamy House tonight.”

Daniel immediately stood.

“My mother—”

I raised my hand.

“Wait.”

He looked at me.

I knew what he wanted to do.

Protect me.

Protect our marriage.

Protect his family name.

But this was no longer about protecting.

This was about truth.

“Detective,” I said quietly, “before you ask any questions, there is something you need to see.”

I reached toward the small table beside my bed.

My phone was sitting there inside a clear evidence bag.

The officer looked surprised.

“You were recording?”

“Yes.”

Daniel looked at me.

“You recorded dinner?”

I met his eyes.

“I was recording the moment I told my husband we were having a baby.”

His expression changed.

Pain crossed his face.

Because he understood.

The recording was supposed to be a memory.

A beautiful memory.

A memory for our children someday.

Instead, it had captured the moment their grandmother tried to destroy them.

Detective Harris carefully took the phone.

“Do you know what’s on this?”

“Yes.”

My voice became steady.

“Everything.”

The recording began with laughter.

The sound of glasses clinking.

The soft music playing in the background.

My own voice.

Daniel’s voice.

Then Vivian.

The officers listened.

Everyone in the room listened.

Even Daniel.

And when Vivian’s voice came through the speaker—

“Here we go. You’re always desperate for attention.”

Daniel closed his eyes.

Because he had heard those words before.

But never like this.

Never as evidence.

Never as something he couldn’t explain away.

The recording continued.

My announcement.

The sound of my voice shaking.

“I’m pregnant.”

Then silence.

Then Vivian.

“No.”

The single word sent a chill through the room.

Then came the sound.

The chair moving.

Footsteps.

A gasp.

The impact.

The scream.

Daniel’s scream.

“Claire!”

The recording ended.

Nobody spoke.

Detective Harris looked at Daniel.

“Mr. Bellamy, is that your mother?”

Daniel swallowed.

“Yes.”

“Is that your wife?”

“Yes.”

“Is that you yelling for help?”

His voice broke.

“Yes.”

The detective nodded slowly.

“Then we have enough to proceed.”

Across the hallway, Vivian was being questioned.

She had changed completely.

The confident woman who had walked into Bellamy House like she owned the world was gone.

Now she looked nervous.

Small.

Afraid.

But I knew Vivian.

Fear was temporary.

Manipulation was permanent.

She would not admit what she did.

Not willingly.

Detective Harris returned an hour later.

“She claims your fall was accidental.”

I almost laughed.

Of course.

Vivian Bellamy had spent her entire life building a world where consequences happened to other people.

“She says you opened the box, became emotional, stepped backward, and fell.”

Daniel stared at the floor.

“She’s lying.”

The detective looked at him.

“You’re willing to testify against your mother?”

The question hung in the air.

Daniel looked at me.

Then at my stomach.

Then at the door where his mother had disappeared.

“Yes.”

His answer came quietly.

“But I should have done it years ago.”

The next morning, my attorney arrived.

Not Daniel’s attorney.

Mine.

Her name was Rebecca Morgan.

She had represented me for years before I married into the Bellamy family.

She walked into the room carrying a thick folder.

“I heard what happened.”

She placed the folder on the table.

“And I brought something more important.”

I frowned.

“What?”

She opened the folder.

Inside were financial documents.

Bank transfers.

Trust records.

Approval forms.

My stomach tightened.

“What is this?”

Rebecca looked at Daniel.

“Your mother has been moving money from the Bellamy Family Trust for almost eighteen months.”

Daniel went pale.

“That’s impossible.”

“No,” Rebecca said. “It’s very possible.”

She turned another page.

“Millions of dollars.”

The room became cold.

I looked at the documents.

I had suspected something was wrong months ago.

The numbers didn’t match.

The signatures didn’t match.

The approvals didn’t make sense.

But I never imagined Vivian would be reckless enough to steal from her own family.

“She used forged authorization forms,” I said.

Rebecca nodded.

“Yes.”

Daniel looked devastated.

“She stole from us?”

I looked at him carefully.

“She stole from your father’s legacy.”

That hurt him more.

Because Daniel had always worshiped his father.

The man who built Bellamy Holdings from nothing.

The man whose final wish was that the family stayed united.

Vivian wasn’t protecting the family.

She was destroying it.

Rebecca closed the folder.

“There’s one more thing.”

I looked at her.

“What?”

She hesitated.

“Your pregnancy changes everything.”

Daniel frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Rebecca looked at me.

“Claire, when you were appointed trustee advisor after your marriage, your father-in-law included a special clause.”

Daniel blinked.

“What clause?”

Rebecca answered.

“If Daniel had a child, control of the family trust would temporarily transfer to an independent review board to protect the next generation’s inheritance.”

Silence.

I remembered.

The clause.

The one I had discovered three months earlier.

The one Vivian had no idea existed.

Rebecca continued.

“Your pregnancy triggered the review.”

Daniel looked shocked.

“And my mother knew?”

“No,” I said.

“She only knew I was pregnant.”

Rebecca nodded.

“And that explains her reaction.”

Daniel stared at me.

“She attacked you because she knew she would lose control.”

I looked down at my hands.

The realization was painful.

Vivian wasn’t angry because she hated me.

She was terrified.

Because my children represented the one thing she could never manipulate.

The future.

That evening, Detective Harris called.

“Mrs. Bellamy, we found something.”

I sat up.

“What?”

“We reviewed security footage from Bellamy House.”

My heart started racing.

“The camera caught the entire incident.”

I closed my eyes.

The recording was enough.

But the footage would destroy every lie Vivian had prepared.

Then Detective Harris added:

“There’s something else.”

“What?”

A pause.

Then his voice lowered.

“The footage shows your mother-in-law wasn’t acting alone.”

I froze.

“What do you mean?”

“We saw someone standing near the entrance before the attack.”

My fingers tightened around the blanket.

“Who?”

The detective answered.

“Her daughter.”

Elise.

Vivian’s perfect daughter.

The woman who had sat beside her mother in the hospital looking completely calm.

The woman who had watched me nearly lose my babies.

The woman who had said nothing.

Detective Harris continued.

“And Mrs. Bellamy?”

“Yes?”

“We need you to prepare yourself.”

“For what?”

His next words changed everything.

“Because Elise Bellamy didn’t just witness the attack.”

“She helped plan it.”

I stared at the phone.

The room suddenly felt colder.

Because I finally understood.

Vivian wasn’t trying to remove me from Daniel’s life.

May you like

She was trying to remove my children from the future of the Bellamy family.

And she had an accomplice.
