PART 3 — The Secret Room Beneath Sterling Manor

The question hung in the air.
Where is Alexander Sterling?
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Because for six months, everyone had accepted the same story.
Alexander Sterling was gone.
The old billionaire had disappeared after a private trip overseas.
His company released a statement saying he needed time away from public life.
Eleanor told everyone the same thing.
“Alexander is tired.”
“He is no longer interested in running the empire.”
“He trusted me to continue his legacy.”
But now…
one ten-year-old boy had walked into the mansion and turned every lie upside down.
Leo looked at Marcus Vance.
“Tell me the truth.”
His voice was calm.
But there was something different now.
He wasn’t just a child searching for answers.
He was the last Sterling heir demanding them.
Vance took a deep breath.
“I don’t know exactly what happened to your grandfather.”
Leo’s expression tightened.
“But I know he would never disappear without leaving a way to find him.”
He looked toward the old family portraits hanging on the wall.
“Alexander always planned three steps ahead.”
Eleanor suddenly stepped forward.
“This is enough.”
Everyone looked at her.
She had recovered some of her confidence.
“You are all letting emotions replace logic.”
She pointed toward Leo.
“Even if this boy is Alexander’s grandson, that doesn’t prove anything.”
Her eyes moved toward Vance.
“A letter can be forged.”
A few guests exchanged nervous glances.
For a moment…
it sounded reasonable.
Until Marcus smiled.
A small, cold smile.
“That is why Alexander prepared something else.”
Eleanor froze.
“What?”
Vance reached inside his jacket.
He removed a small silver key.
The symbol engraved on it was unmistakable.
The Sterling family crest.
“This key was given to me personally by Alexander.”
He looked at Leo.
“And he told me only one person would ever be allowed to use it.”
Leo stared at the key.
“Who?”
Vance answered:
“You.”
The entire mansion became silent.
Eleanor’s face turned pale.
“No.”
It was the first time she sounded afraid.
“No, that room was sealed.”
Vance turned slowly.
“You know about the room?”
Another mistake.
Another crack.
Eleanor immediately realized what she had revealed.
But it was too late.
Everyone had heard.
“Take us there.”
Leo said.
Nobody questioned him.
Not even Eleanor.
Because suddenly everyone wanted answers.
They walked through the oldest part of Sterling Manor.
Past rooms nobody entered.
Past paintings covered in dust.
Past locked doors that had remained untouched for years.
Finally, they reached the end of a hidden hallway.
A stone wall stood in front of them.
No door.
No handle.
Nothing.
Until Leo stepped forward.
The key in his hand began to glow under the light.
Not literally.
But the way everyone reacted made it feel that way.
He placed the key into a hidden slot.
A click echoed.
Then another.
The stone wall slowly moved.
Behind it was a secret room.
A room nobody had seen in decades.
Inside were hundreds of documents.
Hard drives.
Photographs.
And one large wooden box sitting in the center.
With Leo’s name written on it.
Leo walked closer.
His heart began beating faster.
Because for the first time since arriving…
he wasn’t looking at evidence.
He was looking at something his grandfather prepared specifically for him.
He opened the box.
Inside was a handwritten journal.
The first page contained only one sentence:
“Leo, if you are reading this, then Eleanor has failed to stop you.”
Everyone turned toward Eleanor.
She stepped backward.
“No…”
Leo continued reading.
“I knew someone in this family would try to steal what belongs to you.”
“But money was never the thing I wanted to protect.”
“The real inheritance is the truth.”
Leo turned the page.
And stopped.
His eyes widened.
“What is it?” Vance asked.
Leo didn’t answer immediately.
Because the next page contained a photograph.
A photograph of Alexander Sterling.
Taken recently.
Not six months ago.
Not before his disappearance.
Recently.
And standing beside him…
was the person nobody expected.
Leo slowly lifted the picture.
Everyone gathered closer.
Eleanor’s face lost all color.
Because the person standing beside Alexander…
was someone she trusted completely.
Someone who had helped her take control of the empire.
Someone who was supposed to be on her side.
David Sterling stared at the photograph.
His face became pale.
“That’s impossible.”
Leo looked at him.
“You know who this is.”
David didn’t answer.
He didn’t need to.
His silence was enough.
Then the hidden room’s old computer screen suddenly turned on.
Everyone jumped.
A video file appeared.
Recorded six months earlier.
The title was simple:
“For Leo.”
Leo pressed play.
The screen flickered.
And then…
Alexander Sterling appeared.
Older.
Tired.
But alive.
His voice filled the secret room.
“If you are watching this…”
A pause.
“Then my family has already betrayed itself.”
Leo stood frozen.
Because after ten years of believing he had lost everyone…
he was about to hear his grandfather’s final message.
And the first words Alexander said were:
“Leo…”
May you like
“Do not trust anyone in this house.”
