Part 5: "One Collar Exposed An Empire of Murder"

Part 5: "One Collar Exposed An Empire of Murder"
Every weapon in the courtyard shifted toward Phantom.
Not toward Holden.
Not toward Anna.
Toward the old leather collar around the Cane Corso's neck.
The gray-haired commander smiled coldly.
"So that's where Roman hid it."
Holden slowly stepped between the gunmen and the dog.
"You'll have to come through me."
The commander laughed.
"I planned to."
He pressed the detonator.
Nothing happened.
His smile disappeared.
He pressed it again.
Still nothing.
Michael lowered the small electronic jammer in his hand.
"I disabled your signal thirty seconds ago."
The commander's eyes widened.
"Impossible."
Michael smiled for the first time.
"You spent years planning this."
"We've spent years surviving people like you."
Gunfire erupted again.
This time Holden's security team had the advantage.
Blackridge's men were pushed backward across the courtyard while Phantom remained planted in front of Anna like a living shield.
Holden knelt beside the dog.
"Easy, boy."
With careful hands, he unbuckled the thick leather collar.
It felt heavier than it should.
Far heavier.
He turned it over.
Hidden beneath the inner lining...
Was a tiny titanium compartment.
No larger than a thumb.
Roman had built it into the collar itself.
Inside...
Was a black microSD card.
Nothing more.
The commander lunged forward.
"STOP HIM!"
Before anyone reached Holden, Phantom exploded into motion.
The giant Cane Corso slammed the commander onto the stone pathway with terrifying force.
The man screamed as the dog pinned him flat without biting.
Holding him perfectly still.
Exactly as a military protection dog had been trained.
Holden stared.
Roman hadn't trained Phantom to kill.
He had trained him...
To protect evidence.
Michael inserted the memory card into a secure tablet.
The screen loaded.
Then file after file appeared.
Videos.
Financial records.
Military contracts.
Satellite photographs.
Voice recordings.
Every folder carried the same title.
BLACKRIDGE PROJECT.
Holden opened the first video.
Captain Roman Mercer appeared on-screen.
His face was bruised.
He looked exhausted.
But he looked directly into the camera.
"If you're watching this..."
"They finally found me."
"My name is Captain Roman Mercer."
"I am recording evidence proving that Blackridge murdered American soldiers, trafficked military weapons, and assassinated witnesses inside the United States."
The courtyard fell silent.
Even the gunmen stopped firing.
Roman continued.
"If I disappear..."
"My daughter must live."
"Everything you need is inside Phantom's collar."
"They'll never think to search the only creature they can't control."
Anna covered her mouth.
"Daddy..."
The next recording began automatically.
This one showed the gray-haired commander.
Signing execution orders.
Receiving cash.
Ordering Roman's assassination.
Ordering witnesses eliminated.
Ordering orphanage records altered to erase Anna's identity forever.
Every crime.
Every face.
Every payment.
Recorded.
Authenticated.
Impossible to deny.
The commander stopped struggling.
He knew.
It was over.
Within minutes...
Police helicopters thundered overhead.
Not local police.
Federal agents.
Michael had already transmitted every file.
Blackridge's network collapsed in real time.
Across three states, simultaneous arrests began.
Bank accounts froze.
Private compounds were raided.
Politicians resigned before warrants reached them.
One memory card...
Destroyed an empire.
As federal agents handcuffed the commander, he looked toward Anna.
"It should've ended years ago."
Anna didn't answer.
She simply held Phantom's head against her chest.
For the first time since arriving...
She smiled.
A real smile.
The kind only safe children make.
Three months later...
The eastern courtyard looked completely different.
Children's toys rested where assault rifles once stood.
Flowers replaced security barriers.
Anna raced across the grass laughing while Phantom chased beside her, moving gently despite his enormous size.
Holden watched from the mansion steps.
For years, people had feared him.
Now...
One little girl wasn't afraid to take his hand.
"Daddy Roman said good people still exist."
She looked up at Holden.
"I think he was right."
Holden's throat tightened.
"I hope so."
Anna smiled.
"Can I stay?"
He knelt beside her.
"You don't have to ask anymore."
"You already have a home."
Phantom rested his massive head across both of their laps.
The feared killer dog closed his eyes peacefully.
His final mission was complete.
Roman Mercer had trusted him with the only thing that truly mattered.
Not evidence.
Not secrets.
His daughter.
May you like
And after six long years...
He had finally brought her safely home.
