Chapter 5 - The Hunt BeginsThe chase led down into the subterranean levels of the estate—a labyrinth of concrete corridors housing the power generators, wine cellars, and emergency escape tunnels. Emergency red lights pulsed along the ceiling, casting long, grotesque shadows on the walls.

Lucas moved like a shadow himself, his gun raised, every step silent and deliberate. Hannah followed closely behind, her blood pumping, adrenaline washing away her fear.
A trail of blood droplets marked Marcus's path toward the iron door of the escape tunnel that led out to the lake shore.
"He's heading for the boats," Lucas whispered, stopping at a corner. He looked back at Hannah, his eyes intense in the red light. "When I breach that door, stay low. Marko might have a getaway team waiting on the water."
"Be careful, Lucas," she said involuntarily, reaching out to touch his arm.
Lucas looked down at her hand on his sleeve, his gaze softening for a fraction of a second. "I won't let him hurt you, Hannah. Not like he hurt Michael."
He kicked open the heavy iron door and ducked through. A shot echoed through the tunnel, ricocheting off the concrete walls. Lucas returned fire instantly. A groan sounded from the shadows ahead.
Hannah stepped into the tunnel just in time to see Marcus collapse near the exit hatch, his leg buckling under him. He was bleeding heavily from his shoulder and thigh, his back pressed against the cold wall.
Lucas walked up to him, his pistol pointed directly at Marcus's forehead. The air was thick with the smell of damp earth and rust.
"It's over, Marcus," Lucas said coldly. "Where is Marko Krasniqi?"

Marcus spat blood onto the concrete, laughing raspy, desperate laughter. "You think... you think killing me changes anything, Lucas? Marko already has the decryption key. I sent it to his server five minutes before we breached the house. By tomorrow morning, the Krasniqi clan will own every asset, every account, every secret your family ever possessed."
Lucas's jaw tightened. "Where is he?"
"The old docks on 4th Street," Marcus gasped, his eyes wild. "He's leaving the country tonight on a cargo vessel. And there's nothing... nothing you can do—"
BANG.
Lucas pulled the trigger without a flicker of emotion. Marcus went limp, sliding down the wall.
Silence descended back upon the tunnel. Lucas stood there for a long moment, the smoke curling gently from the barrel of his gun. He turned to look at Hannah, who was staring at the body, her hands trembling.
"This is the world Michael died in, Hannah," Lucas said, his voice raw with a bitter honesty. "It's ugly. It's violent. You should hate me for bringing you into it."
Hannah looked up from the ground, meeting his dark, burdened eyes. She walked slowly over to him, stepping around the pool of blood, until she was standing right in front of him.
"I don't hate you, Lucas," she said softly. "Michael tried to hide from this, and it got him killed. You're fighting it to protect the people you care about. There's a difference."
Lucas stared at her, genuinely surprised by her strength. He raised his hand, his thumb gently wiping a smudge of dirt from her cheek. The touch was electric, sending a warm shiver through both of them despite the cold concrete surroundings.

"We have to stop Marko," Hannah continued, her eyes blazing with newfound determination. "Michael died trying to expose him. We owe it to him to finish it."
Lucas let out a slow breath, a faint, proud smile touching his lips. "Then let's go finish it."
