CHAPTER 2: THE NAME HE TRIED TO BURY

Richard Hale had built his empire on control—tech companies, hospitals, research foundations. But there was one thing he had buried deeper than anything else: a past no one was supposed to find.
The boy stood across from him like a ghost pulled out of a locked memory.
Richard picked up the photograph again, his fingers shaking harder now.
“That woman… Elena,” he whispered. “She died twenty years ago. I was told the baby didn’t survive.”
The boy’s jaw tightened.
“They lied to you.”
The entire restaurant had gone silent. Even the staff had stopped pretending to work.
Richard’s voice rose.
“If you’re trying to scam me—”
“I’m not here for your money,” the boy interrupted.
That shut him up instantly.
The boy stepped closer, placing a small, worn bracelet on the table. It was stitched with faded thread. Richard recognized it immediately. His face drained of color.
Elena’s hospital bracelet.
“How do you have that?” Richard whispered.
The boy’s voice lowered.
“Because she held me before she died.”
A pause.
Then—
“I was supposed to be buried with her.”
Richard shook his head violently.
“No… no, that’s impossible.”
But his body was already betraying him. His newly awakened legs twitched again, stronger this time. Pain shot through them—but it was the pain of something waking up after years of death.
The boy looked at him one last time.

“You didn’t lose your son, Richard Hale.”
“You abandoned him.”
