CHAPTER 11 — The Rain

That evening, the sky broke open.

A torrential, heavy summer storm.

Valeria stepped out onto her small balcony.

She didn't use an umbrella.

She let the freezing rain hit her face.

Her clothes soaked through in seconds, clinging to her skin.

She closed her eyes and tilted her head back.

Water ran down her throat, pooling at her collarbones.

Her breathing was deep, natural, highly rhythmic.

She was washing away the final, invisible fingerprints he had left on her.

It was a quiet baptism.

Raw. Unfiltered. Real.

She stood in front of the bathroom mirror.

Her wet hair dripped onto the tile floor.

She looked at her own reflection.

She reached up and gently traced the faint, faded scar near her hairline.

A micro-expression of immense, quiet pride settled on her features.

There was no sweeping orchestral music playing in the background.

There was no dramatic monologue.

Just a woman.

Breathing.

Living.

Unbroken.

May you like

She turned off the light.

And walked into the rest of her life.
