CHAPTER 7 — The Mother’s Collapse

CHAPTER 7 — The Mother’s Collapse
Ofelia Moreno did not cry when her son was arrested.
She cried when her social circle stopped answering her calls.
When neighbors crossed the street to avoid her.
When her name appeared in investigative reports.
She sat alone in her luxury living room, staring at unpaid accounts and frozen cards.
Then the doorbell rang.
It was not a visitor.
It was a summons.
For the first time, Ofelia understood:
Power is only real until someone documents it.
And Valeria had documented everything.
The courtroom was colder than Valeria expected.
Julian arrived in handcuffs, but still tried to smile at her.
As if nothing had changed.
As if love could overwrite evidence.
The prosecutor opened the case:
Domestic violence.
Financial fraud.
Forgery.
Coercion.
Identity theft.
Each word landed like a hammer.
Julian leaned forward.
“She forgave me before.”
Valeria finally looked at him.
“I was surviving before.”
The judge did not interrupt.
Because there was nothing left to misunderstand.
The first letter arrived two weeks later.
Then another.
Then five more.
Julian wrote about regret.
About love.
About destiny.
About how everything could still be fixed.
Valeria never opened them.
She placed each envelope into a sealed box labeled:
EVIDENCE — NOT EMOTIONS
Ernesto watched her once and asked:
“Do you want me to make them stop sending these?”
She replied calmly:
“No.”
.“Let him write.”
“Paper is the only place where he can no longer touch me.”
A week later, investigators discovered something buried deeper than expected.
Ofelia had not only participated in fraud.
She had negotiated it.
A private agreement.
A second set of forged documents.
A hidden transaction trail involving properties seized from vulnerable families.
When confronted, she finally broke.
“I did it for him.”
Ernesto responded coldly:
May you like
“That’s not love.”
“That’s ownership.”
