Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Hospital Doors

Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Hospital Doors
Marcus didn't move.
His eyes remained fixed on Khloe, who was curled on the floor, both hands wrapped protectively around her stomach.
"Marcus..." she whispered through gritted teeth. "The baby..."
That single sentence shattered the spell.
He rushed past Isabella without looking at her.
"Call Labor and Delivery!" Marcus shouted.
Elaine Parker grabbed the emergency phone on the wall.
"We need an obstetric trauma team in the executive suite! Seven months pregnant! Possible abdominal injury!"
Within seconds, doctors and nurses flooded the room.
Among them was Dr. Gabriel Bennett, the hospital director.
The moment he saw Khloe, the color drained from his face.
"Khloe!"
Everyone froze.
Marcus looked up.
"You know my wife?"
Dr. Bennett knelt beside Khloe, gently brushing hair away from her face.
"My niece," he answered quietly.
The room fell silent.
Isabella blinked.
"...What?"
Marcus stared between them.
Khloe had never spoken much about her mother's family. She only said they had lived overseas for years and preferred privacy.
Gabriel looked directly at Marcus.
"I'm her uncle."
"And if anyone delays her treatment," he continued, rising to his feet, "they'll answer to me."
The medical team immediately wheeled Khloe toward the operating suite.
Marcus followed until security officers blocked Isabella from entering the hallway.
"I need to see Marcus!" she yelled.
"No," Gabriel said coldly.
"You need to stay exactly where you are."
Three hours later...
The baby's heartbeat stabilized.
Khloe's contractions stopped.
Both mother and son would survive.
Marcus finally allowed himself to breathe.
He sat beside Khloe's hospital bed, holding her trembling hand.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
"I should've seen what she was doing."
Khloe looked at him with exhausted eyes.
"You never wanted to believe someone you loved could be that cruel."
Marcus lowered his head.
"I won't make that mistake again."
Outside the room...
Gabriel stood beside the hospital's head of security.
"I want every camera."
"The gala."
"The elevators."
"The executive floor."
"And this suite."
"I don't care how many hours it takes."
"Find everything."
The security chief nodded.
May you like
"Already underway."
None of them knew that the cameras had captured far more than the assault.
