Chapter 7 – The Viral Storm
Marcus wasted no time. Three days later, the storm hit.
A video surfaced on Facebook. It was a professionally shot interview of Marcus, looking heartbroken, sitting in a modest apartment. The headline was pure clickbait: "Billionaire Uses Wealth and Corrupt Courts to Steal Child from Working-Class Biological Father."
The internet did what it does best: it judged without facts. Within twenty-four hours, the video had millions of views and hundreds of thousands of shares. The comments were brutal. People called Daniel a kidnapper, a monster who used his money to tear a child from her "reformed" biological father. The court order, the years of abandonment, the truth—none of it mattered to the court of public opinion.
The drama spilled into our real lives. Paparazzi began lingering outside Lily’s school. Reputable news outlets started calling Daniel’s office, threatening to run the story if he didn't give an exclusive interview.
To make matters worse, Patricia and Harold—Daniel's estranged parents—saw this as their golden opportunity to claw their way back into the narrative. They gave a public statement to a local tabloid: "We always had reservations about the quick adoption. We love Lily, but we fear Daniel's rash decisions have brought shame upon our family name."
It was a double betrayal.
"They're trying to destroy her life just to get a piece of us," I cried, pacing the kitchen floor as the television flashed Daniel’s face next to Marcus's. "Lily won't even go to school. She's terrified."
Daniel sat at the table, his laptop open, his face dangerously calm. "They are targeting me because they think I will pay them to go away. Marcus wants money. My parents want control. But they made one crucial mistake."
"What's that?" I asked.
"They underestimated how far a father will go to protect his child," Daniel said, standing up. His eyes flashed with a fire I had never seen before. "We are not going to hide, Elena. We are going to give them the fight they are looking for, but we are doing it on our terms."
He called a meeting with his legal team and a high-profile public relations strategist. The strategy wasn't to fight Marcus in the shadows; it was to bring the absolute, undeniable truth into the blinding light.
That evening, Daniel posted a single response on his personal social media account. It wasn't a corporate press release. It was a video of him and Lily from the past two years—learning to ride a bike, crying together over a scraped knee, celebrating the day at the courthouse. Beneath it, he wrote:
