Chapter 2 - The Perfect Illusion

The Prestige Maternity Clinic was the pinnacle of elite medical care in New York, a place where high-society mothers went to be pampered during their pregnancies. The lobby featured polished white marble, soft classical music playing over hidden speakers, and a concierge desk that resembled a five-star hotel.
Bradley walked through the glass doors with his chest puffed out, the keys to his luxury sports car jingling in his hand. Behind him came his mother, Evelyn, dressed in her finest Sunday tweed, and Brittany, who was busy recording a video for her social media followers.
"Oh, Bradley, darling," Evelyn cooed, adjusting the silk bow on a massive Tiffany & Co. gift box she was carrying. "I am just so thrilled. A boy! A proper Mitchell heir to carry on your father’s name. It’s exactly what this family needed after years of... well, you know."
"I know, Mom," Bradley grinned, adjusting the collar of his designer shirt. "Sarah always made everything feel like a chore. She complained about the budget, she complained about the kids' schedules. Tiffany actually appreciates the lifestyle I provide."
"And let's be honest," Brittany chimed in, not looking up from her screen. "Tiffany actually looks like she belongs in a penthouse. Sarah looked like she belonged in a PTA meeting."
Tiffany was already waiting for them in the private VIP waiting suite, looking radiant in a white cashmere maternity dress. She stood up, a delicate, practiced smile on her lips as Bradley rushed forward to kiss her.
"How did the signing go?" Tiffany whispered against his ear, her eyes darting toward the designer handbag he had promised her as a celebratory gift.
"Perfect," Bradley laughed, rubbing her stomach gently. "She took the bait hook, line, and sinker. Walked out with nothing but a suitcase and the kids. She even left the penthouse keys on the table. She’s probably sitting in some cramped apartment right now, crying her eyes out."
"Mr. Mitchell?" a nurse in crisp navy scrubs called out from the doorway. "Dr. Aris is ready for you in Ultrasound Suite 3."
The entire entourage stood up, eager to witness the first clear 4D images of the child they believed would cement their high-society future. Evelyn proudly carried her gift box, while Brittany kept her phone camera rolling, ready to broadcast their flawless new life to the world.
They entered the dimly lit ultrasound room. Dr. Aris, a renowned specialist with a reputation for absolute precision, was sitting behind a massive digital console. His face was entirely unreadable as he glanced up from a thick paper medical chart.
"Come on in, everyone," Bradley said arrogantly, gesturing for his mother and sister to take the leather seats against the wall. "Doctor, let's see my boy. Give us the full high-definition view."

Tiffany lay back on the examination table, a sudden, microscopic flicker of nervousness passing across her eyes before she smoothed it over with a sweet smile.
Dr. Aris didn't smile back. He didn't dim the room lights any further. He simply picked up the ultrasound transducer, applied the clear gel to Tiffany’s abdomen, and pressed the device against her skin.
