Chapter 3: The Unraveling of Marco Vega

Chapter 3: The Unraveling of Marco Vega

The apartment in the Salamanca district was one of the premier properties in Madrid, featuring high ceilings, original crown molding, and a terrace overlooking the Calle de Serrano. Marco Vega stood in the center of the living room, a glass of expensive Rioja wine in his hand, watching Sofia hang her designer coats in the hallway closet.
"I still can't believe it was that easy," Sofia laughed, her voice echoing in the empty space. "She didn't even fight you? She just stood there in the rain?"
"Elena is a coward, Sofia. Just like her mother was," Marco sneered, taking a sip of his wine. "She thinks the world operates on tears and prayers. I told her the apartment was sold, and she looked like she was going to faint right into the grave. The buyer paid in cash through an offshore broker. By next week, the money will be cleared, and we’ll buy that villa in Marbella."
Sofia walked over, wrapping her arms around his neck, her eyes shining with greed. "And her baby? What if she sues for child support?"
"With what money?" Marco chuckled. "Her mother died in debt to the state hospital. Elena has no job, no savings, and no family left. No lawyer in Madrid will take her case on contingency against the Vega family legal team. She’ll end up in some government shelter in Vallecas where she belongs."
The doorbell rang, a sharp, loud chime that interrupted their laughter.
Marco frowned, checking his watch. "The moving company isn't supposed to arrive until noon. Stay here, Sofia. I’ll handle it."
He walked down the long corridor and threw the door open, a sharp reprimand on his tongue. But the words died in his throat.
Standing in the hallway were four men in dark, identical suits, their expressions completely devoid of warmth. Behind them stood two uniformed officers of the Policía Nacional, their hands resting casually near their holsters. In the center of the group stood Don Alessandro Ricci, holding a gold-embossed leather folder.
"Marco Vega?" Alessandro asked, his voice ringing with a cold, judicial authority.
"Who the hell are you?" Marco demanded, his corporate arrogance instantly kicking in. "This is private property. Get out of my building before I call my security detail."
"This is private property, Mr. Vega. But it is not yours," Alessandro replied calmly. He opened the folder, presenting a document stamped with the royal seal of the Madrid Superior Court. "This is a formal emergency eviction and asset freeze order. As of 8:00 AM this morning, the sale of this apartment has been declared fraudulent. The property belongs to Sforza Holdings, the primary deedholder of this entire residential block."
Marco laughed, a nervous, high-pitched sound. "You're crazy. I bought this apartment myself five years ago. I have the title!"
"You had a leveraged mortgage through Banco de Madrid, Mr. Vega," Alessandro countered, his eyes narrowing like a hawk targeting its prey. "A mortgage that was bought out by Alba Chiara, a subsidiary of Sforza Holdings. You failed to disclose the illegal transfer of marital property during a pending divorce action, which constitutes criminal fraud under Article 250 of the Spanish Penal Code. The court has ordered the immediate seizure of this asset."
Sofia ran down the hall, her face pale as she saw the police officers. "Marco? What’s going on? Who are these people?"
One of the police officers stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "Mr. Vega, you are required to vacate these premises immediately. Any personal items not removed within ten minutes will be placed into state storage pending a criminal investigation into corporate embezzlement and asset hiding."
May you like
"Embezzlement?" Marco’s wine glass slipped from his fingers, shattering on the hardwood floor, the red wine spreading across the wood like blood. "What are you talking about? I am the Senior Vice President of Vega Logistics!"
"Not anymore, Mr. Vega," Alessandro said, offering a thin, ruthless smile. "An hour ago, the majority debt holder of Vega Logistics called in your family's short-term capital loans. Your father has just filed for corporate bankruptcy. You have no job, no company, and as of this moment, no home. Now, step away from the door."
