CHAPTER 2 — The Woman in the Rolls-Royce

The city lights blurred beyond the tinted windows as the Rolls-Royce carried Isabella Montrose toward Montrose Global Headquarters.
She never looked back.
Not once.
Across from her sat Jonathan Pierce, the family's chief legal officer.
A thick leather folder rested on his lap.
"I've reviewed every document," Jonathan said quietly.
"The trust agreement. The shareholder registry. The licensing contracts. Everything is ready."
Isabella nodded.
"For four years I hoped Damian would become the man I married."
Jonathan sighed.
"You protected him every time."
"I know."
"You refinanced his debts."
"I know."
"You convinced investors to stay."
"I know."
"And every time his company failed to meet its obligations, Montrose Holdings quietly kept it alive."
She closed her eyes.
"I wasn't saving a company."
"I was trying to save my marriage."
Jonathan didn't answer.
Some losses deserved silence.
Meanwhile...
Damian poured another glass of expensive whiskey.
Vanessa leaned comfortably against him.
"You should've divorced her years ago."
Evelyn smiled.
"The embarrassment finally removed itself."
Their laughter echoed through the mansion.
