Chapter 2 - The Apex Awakens

Three floors above the chaotic dining room, the atmosphere inside the private study was hushed, dominated by the quiet scratching of high-end pens against legal documents.
Jae-min Kang, the head of the powerful Kang Syndicate, sat across a mahogany desk from Vivian’s husband, Raymond Park. A two-hundred-million-dollar real estate development contract lay between them. Raymond was speaking rapidly, his voice eager, desperate to secure the backing of the most feared underworld kingpin in Koreatown.
"Mr. Kang, with your logistics network and our property portfolio, we will completely monopolize the luxury commercial market in the district," Raymond boasted, adjusting his silk tie.
Jae-min didn't answer. He was looking down at his encrypted smartphone.
He hadn't intended to check the live feeds, but an automated medical and biometric alert from the smart kitchen system had flashed across his screen. Jae-min had secretly installed that tracking system months earlier. Not to spy on the Parks, but because Naomi Brooks—the girl currently burning on the floor downstairs—was his exclusive private chef. She was the only person in the world whose meticulous, honest understanding of fermentation allowed him to eat without his chronic medical conditions flaring up. Over the past six months, she had become far more than a chef to him. She was the only peace in his violent world.
Jae-min tapped the screen, opening the 4K live feed of the dining hall.
The video loaded instantly. He watched Vivian Park throw the boiling stone bowl. He heard Naomi’s agonizing scream. He saw the red chili oil blistering the soft skin of her face.
A terrifying, unnatural stillness fell over Jae-min Kang.
Men who had worked for the Kang family for generations knew that stillness. It wasn't calm. It was the precise, silent moment before a customized execution blade left its sheath. The air inside the luxury study became instantly unbreathable, dropping to a freezing temperature.
"Mr. Kang?" Raymond faltered, stopping mid-sentence as he noticed the terrifying look on the kingpin's face. "Is... is there an issue with clause four?"
Jae-min slowly rose from his leather chair. He didn't look at the two-hundred-million-dollar contract. He didn't look at Raymond. He simply turned his phone around, sliding it across the polished desk until the screen faced the terrified businessman.
The live video was still playing. It showed Naomi weeping on the floor, clutching her burned neck, while Vivian stood over her laughing with her friends.

Raymond’s face turned an ashen, translucent white. The color drained from his lips so fast he looked like a corpse. "Oh my god... Vivian... what did she do?"
"Your wife," Jae-min said, his voice a low, mechanical whisper that carried the finality of a graveyard, "has just made a financial and physical decision. And by morning, you will pay the invoice."
