Chapter 3: A Secret Buried Fifteen Years Earlier

Victor couldn't sleep.

Instead, he visited the estate's oldest employee.

Margaret Holloway had served his family for nearly forty years.

When he mentioned Evelyn's name, Margaret froze.

"You said... Carter?"

Victor nodded.

Margaret slowly sat down.

"There was another Carter."

"Daniel Carter."

Victor frowned.

"My father's chief financial investigator?"

Margaret's eyes filled with sadness.

"He wasn't fired."

"He disappeared."

Fifteen years earlier, Daniel Carter had uncovered evidence that millions of dollars were being siphoned from Ashford Global through shell companies.

Before he could reveal everything...

He died in what police called a boating accident.

The case was closed.

Too quickly.

Victor's stomach tightened.

"Evelyn is Daniel Carter's daughter?"

Margaret nodded.

"She was only eight."

Victor suddenly understood why she had accepted an ordinary housekeeping position despite holding a university degree.

She hadn't come for the paycheck.

She had come searching for answers.

But Evelyn herself had uncovered something even more terrifying.

Her father's murder...

May you like

And Victor's attempted poisoning...

Were connected.
