PART 4 — THE MAN WHO KNEW THE SECRET

The auctioneer's hammer never touched the podium.
The entire hall turned toward the entrance.
The bronze doors stood open.
A tall elderly man entered slowly, his polished black cane tapping rhythmically against the marble floor.
Every step echoed through the silent lobby.
Behind him walked four discreet bodyguards in dark suits.
They carried no visible weapons.
They didn't need to.
The man's presence alone commanded the room.
No one recognized him.
Except Sebastian Laurent.
The billionaire's face instantly lost its composure.
His breathing became uneven.
His fingers tightened around the edge of the auction stage.
He whispered,
"...Arthur."
The newcomer smiled faintly.
"So you still remember me."
The guests exchanged confused glances.
Who was Arthur?
None of Europe's business magazines had ever mentioned a man by that name.
Yet Sebastian Laurent—the most respected auction owner on the continent—looked as though he had just seen a ghost.
Arthur stopped only a few meters from the stage.
His silver eyes rested on the young master.
For several long seconds...
Neither man spoke.
The young master slowly straightened his shoulders.
Unlike everyone else...
he did not appear surprised.
Only curious.
Arthur gave a gentle smile.
"You've grown."
The room became even quieter.
The young master frowned slightly.
"Have we met?"
Arthur chuckled softly.
"No."
"But I've watched you your entire life."
Gasps spread through the audience.
Marcus felt his heartbeat racing again.
Another secret.
Another impossible revelation.
Sebastian finally stepped forward.
His voice carried both anger and disbelief.
"You promised me..."
"...you would never come back."
Arthur looked at him calmly.
"I promised I wouldn't interfere."
"I never promised I wouldn't return."
Sebastian's jaw tightened.
For twenty-two years...
he had buried this chapter of his life.
Now...
it had walked straight through the front door.
The young master looked from one elderly man to the other.
"You know each other."
Arthur nodded.
"We were brothers."
The room exploded into whispers.
Brothers?
Sebastian Laurent had a brother?
No newspaper.
No biography.
No documentary had ever mentioned such a thing.
Arthur slowly removed a pair of leather gloves.
"I left the family long before your father built this empire."
He smiled toward Sebastian.
"You chose wealth."
"I chose freedom."
Sebastian answered quietly,
"I chose responsibility."
Arthur laughed gently.
"And that's why we spent twenty years blaming ourselves."
The young master looked confused.
"What does this have to do with me?"
Arthur's expression softened.
"Everything."
He slowly reached inside his overcoat.
Several security guards instinctively became alert.
Arthur ignored them.
He carefully removed an old leather envelope.
Its corners were cracked with age.
The wax seal had long since broken.
He held it with extraordinary care.
"I've carried this..."
"...for twenty-two years."
Sebastian's breathing stopped.
"No..."
Arthur looked directly into his eyes.
"You know exactly what this is."
Sebastian didn't answer.
Because he already knew.
The envelope.
The faded handwriting.
The old family seal.
He had searched for it across half the world.
Arthur slowly climbed the stage.
Every guest watched in complete silence.
He stopped before the young master.
Then held out the envelope.
"This belongs to you."
The young master hesitated.
"What is it?"
Arthur smiled sadly.
"The first letter your father ever wrote to you."
Sebastian suddenly closed his eyes.
His knees nearly gave way.
The room fell completely silent.
The young master stared at the envelope.
His hands trembled slightly as he accepted it.
The paper felt fragile.
Ancient.
As though it carried the weight of decades.
He carefully unfolded the letter.
The handwriting was elegant.
But uneven.
Several places showed tiny water stains.
Tears.
The young master quietly began reading.
His lips moved silently.
The room waited.
No one dared interrupt.
After several moments...
his breathing became slower.
His eyes filled with emotion.
Sebastian looked away.
Unable to watch.
Finally...
the young master spoke.
"He wrote this..."
"...the day I disappeared."
Arthur nodded.
"Yes."
The young master's voice shook.
"He says..."
"...if I ever read this..."
"...it means he failed."
No one moved.
The young master continued reading aloud.
"My son..."
"If these words ever reach your hands..."
"Then I was not strong enough to reach yours."
Several guests quietly wiped away tears.
Even Marcus could no longer hide his emotions.
"Never believe anyone who tells you that wealth makes a family."
"A family is built by those who stay searching."
Sebastian covered his face.
For twenty-two years...
those words had remained trapped inside an unopened envelope.
The young master swallowed.
Then continued.
"If I find you..."
"I will never let you walk alone again."
"If I do not..."
"Forgive me."
Silence.
The young master lowered the letter.
His eyes slowly met Sebastian's.
The old billionaire was crying openly.
Not as a businessman.
Not as the owner of an empire.
Simply...
as a father.
The young master walked toward him.
Neither spoke.
Neither hurried.
When they stood face to face...
Sebastian whispered,
"I wrote that every birthday."
"I rewrote it every year."
"I never stopped believing."
The young master looked at the faded paper.
"There are twenty-two different dates."
Arthur nodded.
"He wrote the same letter every year."
"But he never changed the ending."
The young master smiled through tears.
"He never stopped expecting me."
Sebastian slowly shook his head.
"How could I?"
"I lost my son."
"I refused to lose hope too."
For the first time since entering the auction house...
the young master embraced him.
Not tightly.
Not dramatically.
Simply...
like a son who had waited too long.
The entire hall burst into applause.
Several guests openly cried.
Even the executives who had spent decades hiding emotion found themselves clapping.
Marcus remained frozen.
His heart was heavier than ever.
Because while everyone else witnessed a reunion...
he saw something else.
Everything he had built—
his reputation,
his authority,
his career—
had collapsed in less than fifteen minutes.
Arthur quietly stepped back.
His work was finished.
Or so everyone believed.
The young master released his father.
Then looked toward Arthur.
"There's something you still haven't told me."
Arthur smiled knowingly.
"I wondered when you'd ask."
"You said you watched me my whole life."
The young master nodded.
"But you never explained why."
Arthur's smile slowly disappeared.
He glanced toward the enormous dragon pin shining beneath the chandelier.
Then toward Sebastian.
Finally...
he took a deep breath.
"Because..."
"...the people who took you..."
"...weren't strangers."
The applause stopped instantly.
Every face turned pale.
Sebastian froze.
Arthur continued in a calm voice.
"They came from inside this family."
Marcus's eyes widened.
The board members looked at one another in horror.
The young master's expression hardened.
Arthur slowly turned...
not toward Sebastian...
but toward the executives standing behind him.
Then he quietly raised one finger.
Pointing directly at someone in the front row.
A man who had remained completely silent since the beginning of the evening.
The company's Chief Financial Officer.
Arthur spoke only four words.
"He knows everything."
The executive's face turned completely white.
Before anyone could react...
May you like
he suddenly turned and ran toward the emergency exit.
To be continued...
