Chapter 5: The Courtroom
Eight months later, I entered the courthouse in a wheelchair.
Tyler refused every plea deal.
He insisted the fall had been an accident.
Until prosecutors played the evidence.
The recovered security footage from a neighboring property showed Tyler following me onto the deck.
Lauren testified.
Marcus testified after accepting a plea agreement.
The forensic engineer explained how the railing had been deliberately weakened.
Then Sarah Chen took the witness stand.
She repeated the exact words I whispered on the ground.
"My brother pushed me."
The courtroom became silent.
Tyler looked toward my parents.
Harold stared at the floor.
Diane quietly cried.
Neither testified on his behalf.
After only four hours of deliberation...
The jury returned.
"Guilty."
Attempted murder.
Aggravated assault.
Evidence tampering through conspiracy.
Tyler closed his eyes as deputies placed handcuffs on him.
