Isabella’s release wasn't followed by a direct physical confrontation; instead, the Rossis launched a calculated, venomous assault on our livelihood. Victor Rossi could not accept that his family name had been dragged through the mud because of Marcus's testimony and the severed business ties.
Within a month of her release, Thorne Enterprises faced an unprecedented wave of corporate sabotage. Long-standing shipping contracts were suddenly canceled without explanation. Major institutional investors began quietly liquidating their shares in Marcus's commercial real estate projects.
One evening, Marcus came home late, his tie loosened, looking more exhausted than I had seen him since the trial.
"It’s a coordinated economic hit," Marcus said, pouring himself a glass of water. "The Rossis have formed a coalition with two international hedge funds. "We will never sign anything," I said firmly, sitting beside him. "Let them take the shares. Let them fight in the market. Wealth can be rebuilt, Marcus. Our daughter's safety cannot be bartered."
Marcus smiled, a trace of his usual confidence returning as he kissed my hand. "I knew you’d say that. And luckily, they underestimated who they’re dealing with. They think Thorne Enterprises stands alone. They forgot about your foundation’s network."
Over the past two years, the foundation I started had grown immensely. We hadn't just funded security for hospitals; we had built deep alliances with powerful female philanthropists, corporate leaders, and legal advocates across the country. The moment word got out that a corrupt, old-money dynasty was attempting to financially crush the family of a domestic violence survivor, the counter-offensive began.
Elena Parker, the crucial eyewitness from my trial, was now a senior board member at one of the largest investment firms on the East Coast. She called an emergency meeting of her firm's executive committee.
"The Rossi family represents the absolute worst of corporate entitlement," Elena announced during a televised financial summit the next day, completely blindsiding the market. "My firm is publicly divesting from all Rossi-affiliated holdings, and we are heavily backing Thorne Enterprises.
