Part 6: Infiltration

The warning proved prophetic faster than any of us could have anticipated.
It started with small, unsettling anomalies. The security system at Khloe’s foundation headquarters experienced a series of bizarre, localized server reboots. Richard’s team at Ashford Memorial noticed that a dark-web forum had posted highly specific queries regarding the structural blueprints of the hospital’s private maternity wing—the exact wing where I had given birth to Sophia.
"She’s obsessed," I told Marcus as we reviewed the security logs in our living room. "She isn't trying to rebuild her life. She’s trying to finish what she started."
The most terrifying confirmation came on a rainy Thursday afternoon. I went to pick up Sophia from her preschool. As I walked toward the front gates, escorted by two of our private security guards, I noticed a sleek, black sedan with heavily tinted windows parked directly across the street in a no-parking zone.
As I buckled Sophia into her car seat, the sedan’s window rolled down an inch.
Through the narrow gap, I caught a glimpse of blonde hair and a pair of eyes that had haunted my nightmares for three years. It was Isabella. She wasn't wearing the glamorous designer clothes of her past; her face was drawn, pale, and twisted into a expression of pure, unadulterated fixation. She was staring directly at Sophia.
Before my security team could cross the street to confront the vehicle, the sedan accelerated, blowing through a red light and disappearing into the afternoon traffic.
"We have a major problem," Richard said during an emergency meeting at our house an hour later. He brought a digital forensics expert with him. "We ran the plates of that sedan. It’s a rental registered under a shell company owned by a private investigation firm that Isabella hired using cash accounts her family doesn't monitor. But that’s not all. Look at what we found on the preschool's external network."
The expert clicked a button on his laptop, displaying a series of encrypted code blocks. "Someone bypassed the school's digital firewall three days ago. They didn't steal financial data. They downloaded the complete schedule of Sophia’s classes, the names of her teachers, and the list of authorized individuals permitted to pick her up."

Marcus’s hand clenched into a fist so tight his knuckles turned white. "She’s targeting our daughter. She knows she can't get to you directly because of the guards, Khloe. She’s looking for the weakest link in our armor."
"Then we make our armor impenetrable," I said, a profound, icy calm settling over me. The fear that had paralyzed me three years ago was entirely gone, replaced by the lethal, uncompromising instinct of a mother protecting her child. "We are going to give Isabella exactly what she wants. An opportunity."
