Chapter 1: The Footage No One Expected
Julian's confident smile disappeared the moment he followed my gaze to the security camera above the ballroom entrance.
"What are you talking about?" he demanded, trying to sound calm.
I didn't answer.
Instead, I reached into my purse and pressed a single button on my phone.
Earlier that morning, the wedding venue's security manager had helped me connect the CCTV system to a cloud backup after a minor issue with the live feed. Every camera had been recording continuously.
Within seconds, every television screen around the ballroom flickered to life.
The room filled with confused whispers.
Then the footage began.
The video showed my daughter Lily quietly carrying a basket of flower petals, smiling as she searched for me. Julian stepped into the hallway, looked around to make sure no one was watching, and grabbed her by the arm.
She flinched.
He leaned down and hissed something no one in the ballroom had heard.
"You've already ruined enough of my wedding."
Lily shook her head, frightened.
"I just wanted to find Mommy."
Without another word, Julian shoved her with both hands.
She crashed backward onto the marble floor, striking her head against the edge of a decorative planter.
A sharp gasp swept across the ballroom.
My mother's face turned ghostly white.
My father's hands began to shake.
Julian lunged toward the remote control.
"Turn it off!"
But it was too late.

Everyone had already seen the truth.
