The rain continued to fall.
Adrian glanced toward the mansion as the lights flickered a second time.
He forced a laugh.
"Nice performance."
Vanessa folded her arms.
"She's bluffing."
Claire said nothing.
She simply held the phone to her ear.
"Dad?"
"I'm here," the voice replied. "Are you safe?"
"I'm outside."
"Barefoot?"
"Yes."
A long silence followed.
When her father spoke again, his voice was colder than the storm.
"Go to the east gate."
She frowned.
"The east gate?"

"Someone is already on the way."
The line went dead.
