Not to keep Claire out.

Servants watched from the windows.
One by one, lights came on throughout the mansion.
Inventory teams entered carrying cameras and tablets.
Every room was photographed.
Every painting documented.
Every piece of jewelry cataloged.
Charles looked at Vanessa.
"The sapphire necklace around your neck is listed as property of the Hawthorne Family Collection."
