Chapter 10 - The True Inheritance

One year later, the garden of the Valle de Bravo home was filled with friends, family, and the laughter of children.

It was Valentina’s fifth birthday. There were no press, no business associates trying to secure contracts, and no socialites looking to be seen. There were only the people who truly cared for them—the household staff who had become family, Marisol's relatives from Veracruz who had finally been reunited with her, and the local children from the foundation Marisol ran.

Diego stood near the lake, watching Valentina blow out the candles on her cake, her face covered in chocolate frosting. Marisol was beside her, laughing as she wiped her cheek with a napkin.

Tomas, who had stayed with Diego as his personal security and friend, walked up to Diego, raising a glass. "You look happy, boss."

"I am, Tomas," Diego said, clinking his glass against his. "For the first time in my life, I actually am."

Diego walked over to his wife and daughter. He scooped Valentina up, ignoring the chocolate that immediately transferred to his white linen shirt, and pulled Marisol close with his free arm.

Valentina looked at her parents, her big, dark eyes shining with absolute security and love. She reached out, her small hand touching Diego’s cheek, and then Marisol’s.

"I love you, Papa. I love you, Mama," she whispered.

"We love you more than life itself, mi cielo," Marisol said.

Diego looked out over the quiet lake, feeling the warmth of his family in his arms. He had once believed his inheritance was a company, a name, and a fortune built on marble and glass. But as he held his wife and daughter in the golden afternoon light, he knew the truth.

His true inheritance was right here—in the love they had fought for, the family they had built, and the quiet, beautiful life they had finally claimed as their own.
