Chapter 8 - A New Horizon

Six months later, the Villaseñor mansion in Las Lomas was put up for sale.

The media storm had finally died down, replaced by a deep respect for Diego's unwavering stance on his family. The Robles family had attempted to launch a smear campaign, but Diego’s legal team had swiftly shut it down, exposing the original blackmail letters from Diego’s father's estate that proved Marisol had been forced away. The public sympathy had shifted entirely to the young mother who had worked in silence to protect her child.

In the forest hills of Valle de Bravo, a new house stood. It wasn't a marble fortress like the one in Mexico City; it was a warm, modern home made of local stone and wood, surrounded by towering pine trees and a massive garden.

Valentina, now nearly four years old, had a bedroom that looked out over the lake. Her stuffed rabbit sat on a beautiful wooden bed, surrounded by toys she no longer had to hide.

Diego walked down the hallway of their new home, carrying a tray of coffee. He found Marisol in the living room, looking over a design layout for a local children's charity foundation she was starting, funded by the Villaseñor estate.

He set the tray down and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. "You look busy, Director."

"I’m just making sure the budget for the orphanage’s new library is correct," she said, leaning back into his warmth. "I want to make sure these kids have everything they need."

"They have you," Diego said, kissing her cheek. "That’s more than enough."

From the garden, they heard the sound of Valentina laughing. She was running with a golden retriever puppy Diego had brought home the week before, both of them tumbling into a pile of autumn leaves.
