Chapter 3: Patricia’s Last Card

By morning, Patricia had already begun her attack.
She called relatives.
Board members.
Old family friends.
Anyone who owed her a favor.
By noon, the story had changed.
Lena was unstable.
Mason had lost control.
Oliver was being used as a weapon.
And Patricia?
Patricia was only a concerned grandmother.
But Mason had learned something in the hospital.
Truth does not need to scream.
It needs proof.
At 3:00 p.m., Mason walked into his attorney’s office with Lena beside him and Oliver sleeping in his stroller.
On the table were printed records.
Bank transfers.
Deleted messages.
Security footage.
Medical reports.
And the original document Patricia had hidden for three years.
A trust amendment.
One that would have given Patricia temporary control over Mason’s assets if Lena were declared mentally unfit.
Mason stared at the page.
“She was planning this?”
The attorney nodded.
“She had already contacted a private evaluator.”
Lena’s breath caught.
Brianna had once joked about Lena “needing a quiet facility.”
At the time, Lena thought it was cruelty.
Now she realized it had been preparation.
Mason’s jaw tightened.
“File everything.”
His attorney hesitated.
“This will become public.”
Mason looked at Lena.
Then at his son.
“Good.”
That evening, Patricia arrived at the mansion gate in a black town car.
The guards refused to let her in.
She stood outside in her cream designer coat, furious.
When Mason appeared behind the gate, Patricia lifted her chin.
“You are humiliating your own mother.”
Mason’s eyes were empty.
“No. I am finally telling the truth about her.”
Patricia leaned closer.
“You think Lena loves you? She loves what you gave her.”
Mason gave a sad smile.
“She stayed when you made sure she had nothing.”

Patricia had no answer.
Because that was the one truth she could not twist.
