Chapter 4: Brianna Breaks First

Brianna lasted three days.
Without Patricia’s money, without access to Mason’s accounts, and without the family name protecting her, she began to panic.
She called Mason thirty-seven times.
He didn’t answer.
Then she called Lena.
Lena almost ignored it.
But Mason said quietly, “Put it on speaker.”
Brianna’s voice came through shaking.
“Lena… I’m sorry.”
Lena said nothing.
Brianna cried harder.
“Mom made me do things.”
Mason’s face darkened.
“What things?”
There was a long pause.
Then Brianna whispered, “The medicine.”
Lena went cold.
“What medicine?”
“When Oliver was sick… Mom told me to hide the fever reducer. She said if you looked incompetent enough, Mason would finally see you were unfit.”
Lena covered her mouth.
Mason stood so fast the chair scraped backward.
Brianna sobbed.
“I didn’t think he’d get that sick. I swear.”
Mason’s voice was deadly.
“You watched my son suffer.”
Brianna cried, “I was scared of Mom!”
Mason snapped, “So was my wife. She still protected our child.”
That sentence ended Brianna’s excuses.
The next morning, Brianna gave a full statement to Mason’s attorney.
Patricia denied everything.
But denial meant nothing now.
Because Brianna had messages.
Voice notes.
Screenshots.
And one video Patricia never knew existed.
In it, Patricia stood in the kitchen, smiling coldly while Lena begged to take Oliver to urgent care.
Patricia’s voice was clear.
“Let him cry. Mothers like you only learn when they break.”
When Mason saw the video, he didn’t rage.
He didn’t shout.
He simply walked into Oliver’s room, sat beside his sleeping son, and cried where no one else could see.

Lena found him there.
And this time, she held him.
