Chapter 8 – Ava Stands Again

While the criminal investigation moved forward, Ava focused on something she had almost forgotten.

Hope.

Dr. Daniel Reeves, a leading rehabilitation specialist, reviewed her old medical records.

He looked at Ethan in disbelief.

"She should never have stopped therapy."

Ava watched him carefully.

"Are you saying I still have a chance?"

He smiled.

"I think you deserve one."

The months that followed were filled with pain, determination, and countless setbacks.

Some mornings Ava wanted to quit.

Her muscles burned.

Her confidence shattered with every failed attempt.

Each time, Ethan stayed beside her.

"If you fall," he whispered, "I'll help you back up."

Lena visited every afternoon with homemade soup and endless encouragement.

"You've survived worse than this."

One rainy evening, Ava gripped the parallel bars in the therapy room.

Dr. Reeves nodded.

"Whenever you're ready."

Her legs shook violently.

She took one step.

Then another.

Tears blurred Ethan's vision.

A third step followed.

Slow.

Unsteady.

But entirely her own.

The therapists burst into applause.

Lena covered her mouth as she cried.

Ava laughed through her tears.

"I forgot what it feels like."

Ethan embraced her gently.

"No."

He smiled.

"You remembered."

For the first time since the crash, Ava walked out of the therapy room without a wheelchair.

Not because a miracle had happened.

May you like

But because the lies that had imprisoned her were finally gone.

The hardest battle of her life was becoming her greatest victory.
