Chapter 4: The Sanctuary of Room 412

The private suite on the fourth floor offered a stark contrast to the chaotic grandeur of the ballroom below.

Soft lamplight illuminated the plush carpets and dark mahogany furniture of Room 412, creating an oasis of relative calm.

Jonathan locked the heavy wooden door behind them, throwing the deadbolt with a decisive click that echoed in the quiet room.

Elena guided Leo toward the plush sofa, gently urging him to sit down.

She knelt before him, her wedding dress pooling on the floor, and began carefully unbuttoning his blood-stained white shirt.

The fabric was stiff with dried crimson, and every movement required infinite patience to avoid distressing the boy further.

Leo winced slightly as the shirt was peeled away, revealing an unblemished, pale chest underneath. The blood was not his own. J

onathan watched from the doorway, his tie loosened slightly as he exhaled a long, tired breath. He walked over to the small wet bar, pouring a glass of cool water and handing it down to the boy.

“Drink a little, Leo,” Jonathan instructed gently, his stern demeanor melting into profound warmth when addressing the child.

“You are safe in this room. No one is coming through that door.” Leo took the glass with shaking hands, taking a few small sips.

His big hazel eyes looked between Elena and Jonathan with a mixture of guilt and overwhelming relief. “I didn’t mean to break it,” Leo whispered, his voice trembling. “Evelyn was yelling at mother. There was a terrible crash, and then…

there was so much blood on the rug. I tried to help, but she grabbed my arm and chased me.” Elena pressed a gentle finger to his lips, shaking her head.

“Hush now, darling. You did nothing wrong. Evelyn is a deeply troubled woman who has caused enough pain for a lifetime.” The mention of the study upstairs brought a cold realization to Jonathan’s mind.

He walked to the window, peering through the heavy velvet drapes down at the hotel entrance below.

Flashing red and blue lights were beginning to paint the wet pavement outside, signaling the arrival of the police.

Jonathan turned back to the room, his expression grave. “The authorities will be knocking on this door soon,” Jonathan said, his voice measured.

“We need to tell them everything we know before Evelyn weaves another one of her destructive lies.” Elena pulled a soft blanket from the back of the sofa, wrapping it securely around Leo’s shoulders.

She sat beside him, pulling him close once again. “We will tell the truth,” Elena affirmed steadily. “Evelyn’s control over this family ends tonight.”
