Chapter 10: The Fall of the Architect

Down in the hotel’s main lobby, the flashing red and blue lights cast erratic shadows across the polished marble floors.
A small crowd of late-night hotel guests and lingering wedding attendees watched in hushed silence as Evelyn was led through the grand entrance in handcuffs. Her dark burgundy dress, once a symbol of calculated elegance, now looked like a shroud wrapping around her defeat. Her dark hair, though still pinned in its elaborate updo, was slightly frayed at the edges, matching the frantic desperation in her dark eyes.
She scanned the lobby, hoping to find a sympathetic face or an advocate, but found only cold indifference and stern glances. As Officer Davis guided her toward the rear doors of the waiting police cruiser, Evelyn caught sight of Jonathan and Elena standing near the mezzanine overlooking the lobby.
Arthur remained upstairs with the medical team, but Jonathan and Elena had come down to ensure the authorities carried out their duty without interference. Evelyn stopped abruptly, straining against the restraint of the handcuffs.
She glared up at them with a look of pure, unadulterated venom. “You haven’t won!” Evelyn shrieked, her voice echoing off the high vaulted ceilings of the lobby. “The empire is built on rot! It will all crumble without me!” Detective Miller gently nudged her forward, cutting off her tirade as he urged her into the back seat of the police car.
The heavy door slammed shut, cutting off the sound of her frantic threats and sealing her fate. Jonathan let out a long, measured breath, watching the cruiser pull away from the curb and merge into the wet, glittering traffic of the city streets.
Elena leaned her head against his shoulder, exhaustion finally catching up to her after hours of high-tension drama. “It’s over,” Elena whispered softly, her voice filled with profound relief. “She can never hurt Leo or anyone else in this family again.”
Jonathan wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close in the quiet sanctuary of the lobby. “Yes, it’s over,” Jonathan agreed, his voice firm yet filled with tenderness. “Now, we can begin the real work of healing.”

They turned away from the glass doors and walked back toward the elevators, ready to return to Arthur and Leo, knowing that the darkest chapter of their lives had finally been closed for good.
