Chapter 3: The Paralyzed Patriarch

In the background, standing like a ghost at the end of the long hallway, was Arthur. Dressed in an immaculate charcoal suit, he looked less like a father and more like an executive board member observing a hostile takeover. He had rushed from his home office at the sound of the commotion, fully prepared to discipline his son, to assert dominance and restore order to his perfectly manicured life.

Yet, as he watched Rosa kneel in the debris, Arthur found his feet glued to the floor. He was a man who commanded thousands of employees, who moved billions of dollars with a single phone call, but in the face of his son’s raw, bleeding emotions, he was entirely powerless.

He listened to Rosa's words. I'm not gonna run from you. And I'm not gonna yell. The words hit Arthur harder than the teacup had hit the statue. They were an indictment of his own parenting. Whenever Mateo lashed out, Arthur’s instinct was to run—to retreat behind closed doors, to send the boy to boarding schools, to yell until the silence returned. He watched as his son’s aggressive posture entirely collapsed under the weight of Rosa’s unconditional patience.
