Chapter 15: The Ambiguous Silence

Arthur didn't shout this time. He didn't rush forward. He simply pulled a suppressed firearm from inside his white suit jacket.

Ruby’s breath hitched. The smugness vanished, replaced by the same terror she had shown weeks ago. "Arthur, you shoot me, you go to prison forever. Who will take care of your bastard child?"

"I don't care about my freedom anymore," Arthur whispered, raising the barrel. "I just care about the silence."

Outside the office, the corridor was empty. The soundproofing of the executive suite absorbed the three muted thumps entirely. Hours later, security breached the locked doors. They found the office empty, the glass wall shattered once again, and a pool of crimson blood soaking into the white carpet. Neither Arthur nor Ruby were ever seen again, leaving a fragile, motherless infant in a hospital ward, the sole heir to an empire built on shattered glass and stolen breaths.
