Chapter 5: Retribution in White

Arthur didn't hesitate. He dropped to his knees, grabbing the edge of the massive mahogany desk. With a primal, guttural shout, fueled by adrenaline and sheer rage, he heaved the heavy furniture upward and backward.

The desk flipped, flying through the air and crashing violently into the floor-to-ceiling glass wall of the adjacent boardroom. The glass exploded outward in a dazzling, terrifying shower of deadly shards, the sound deafening like a bomb blast.

Without missing a beat, Arthur reached down and snatched the baseball bat from the floor. He spun around. Ruby barely had time to scream before the aluminum bat connected with her ribcage. The sickening crunch echoed through the hall. Ruby collapsed, sprawling onto the marble, clutching her side and wailing in agony. Blood began to trickle from a cut on her forehead where a shard of flying glass had grazed her.
