PART 27 — THE PRICE OF A NAME

Judge Porter slammed her wooden gavel down, the sharp cracks echoing like gunfire over the murmurs that had erupted across the gallery. "Order! I will have order in my courtroom!" She glared down at Graham, her face pale with fury. "Mr. Vale, if you are standing in my courtroom admitting to medical theft and illegal artificial insemination, I will have the bailiffs place you in handcuffs this very second!"
Graham didn't even flinch. He steepled his fingers, radiating an aura of total invincibility. "I did absolutely nothing illegal, Your Honor. I assure you, every piece of paperwork is in perfect order. Vanessa Parker signed the donor release forms herself. Of course, she signed them under the legal name of Lauren Mitchell, using forged identification that she had meticulously crafted over months of living in their home. It was an unfortunate administrative error by the clinic, but legally binding nonetheless."
A wave of pure nausea washed over me, so strong I had to grip the edge of the defendant's table to keep from collapsing. Suddenly, every single twisted detail of the last year made horrific sense. Everything Vanessa had done—pretending to be my closest friend, bringing over meals, learning my routines, stealing my mail, copying my signature on greeting cards—it wasn't just about stealing my husband.
It was about stealing my identity. It was about stealing my legal right to motherhood. She had orchestrated the ultimate betrayal not for love, but for a corporate takeover of my very existence.
Noah couldn't take it anymore. A primal, guttural scream ripped from the sixteen-year-old boy's throat. "You’re a monster!" he roared, leaping over the wooden partition and lunging directly at Graham Vale’s throat.
It took three heavily armed bailiffs to intercept him. They tackled Noah to the floor, pinning his arms behind his back as he thrashed wildly, tears of absolute rage streaming down his cheeks. "I'll kill you! You ruined her! You ruined all of us!"

I pushed past Rachel, ignoring the pain shooting through my swollen ankles, and threw myself between the struggling boy and the grinning billionaire. "Get your hands off him!" I screamed at the guards, shielding Noah with my own pregnant body. I glared up at Graham, my chest heaving. "Do you really think this is going to work? Do you think a piece of fraudulent paper can force a newborn baby to be your pawn?"
Graham looked down at me, his eyes cold and empty of anything resembling humanity. "No, Lauren. I don't care about the child. I care about the timeline. I think this newborn invalidates the child in your womb. Robert Mitchell’s trust rules were incredibly clear, written in ironclad legalese: The firstborn blood-heir inherits the entire Trust."
He stepped closer, lowering his voice so only I could hear the sheer malice in it. "This baby has already taken its first breath. Your baby is still in the dark. I have beaten the clock, Lauren. You lose."
