Chapter 20 - The Horizon of Peace

Three months later.

The spring sun had transitioned into a brilliant, warm summer afternoon over Newport. The blackened ruins, the secret tunnels, and the corrupt shadows were permanently gone. The tunnels beneath Sterling Manor had been filled with solid concrete, sealing the past away forever.

Viktor Lupo and Prosecutor Vance were sharing adjacent cells in a maximum-security federal facility, their names permanently erased from the city's power structures. The Sterling fortune was safe, and the legal system had fully cleared Adrian of any wrongdoing, acknowledging his role in taking down an international syndicate.

Catherine stood on the grand terrace, looking out over the calm, blue Atlantic Ocean. She wore a simple white summer dress that caught the ocean breeze. Her short golden hair was long enough to tickle her neck, and her radiant face was full of life.

A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around her waist from behind. Adrian pulled her close, pressing a soft kiss to the side of her neck, right over the silver scar.

"What are you thinking about?" Adrian asked, his voice low and full of a profound, unshakeable warmth.

"I was thinking about the night in the alley," she said, turning around within his embrace to look up into his dark eyes. "How far we've come. We aren't ghosts anymore, Adrian."

"No, we aren't," Adrian said softly, his thumb gently tracing her cheekbone. "We are the foundation, Catherine. And this house is finally ours."

He leaned down, his lips meeting hers in a long, deep, and passionate kiss that celebrated their present and welcomed their beautiful, everlasting future. Up here, high above the shadows and the pain of the past, the ghost of Sterling Manor had finally found her peace—and the man who loved her had found his home.
