Chapter 9 - The Fall of the Syndicate

"Get them out of here!" Valenti screamed, abandoning all pretense of civility. "Security! Remove these lunatics!"

But none of the hotel security guards moved. Instead, twelve federal agents in tactical gear stepped out from the shadows of the ballroom exits, led by a U.S. Attorney who had received Adrian’s encrypted package two hours prior.

Simultaneously, the massive digital projector screens behind the stage flickered to life.

Instead of the promotional video showcasing Valenti's charities, the screen displayed a scrolling feed of bank transactions, shipping manifests, and the signed deposition of Arthur Sterling detailing Valenti’s complicity in arson and murder.

The ballroom erupted into absolute chaos. High-society guests shrieked and scrambled for the exits as Valenti's primary enforcer, Sledge, drew a concealed pistol from beneath his jacket, aiming directly at Catherine.

Adrian reacted with the terrifying, split-second speed that had kept him alive for over a decade in the underworld.

He lunged forward, grabbing Sledge’s wrist and twisting it upward. A loud crack echoed through the air as the enforcer's wrist shattered, his gun discharging harmlessly into the gilded ceiling. Adrian followed through with a devastating elbow to the man's throat, sending him crashing to the floor, unconscious.

Valenti tried to bolt through a service door behind the stage, but Marco was already there, his weapon drawn and aimed directly at the crime boss's chest.

"Going somewhere, Dominic?" Marco asked with a pleasant smile.

Federal agents swarmed the stage, tackling Valenti to the ground and slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. As they dragged him away, Valenti locked eyes with Catherine, his face twisted in a mask of pure, impotent rage.

"You're nothing!" he screamed, foam flecking his lips. "You're a ghost! You belong in the dirt!"

Catherine didn't flinch. She stood tall, her hand sliding naturally into Adrian's as he stepped up beside her, his arm wrapping protectively around her waist.

"The dirt is gone, Dominic," she said softly. "And I am finally home."
