Chapter 15 - Mason Returns Home
Mason arrived the following morning carrying flowers.
Nora watched him through the security camera before opening the door only as far as the chain allowed.
He smiled as though they were still family.
“I heard about Meridian’s letter,” he said. “I came to help.”
“You work for Meridian.”
His smile remained, but his eyes hardened.
“I advise them occasionally.”
“You are their director of property acquisition.”
Mason lowered the flowers.
“Then you understand why I’m the best person to negotiate for you.”
“There will be no negotiation.”
“Nora, they’re offering more money than this house is worth.”
“This house is not for sale.”
“You don’t even know the offer.”
“I know you forged my signature.”
For one second, Mason lost control of his expression.
Then he laughed.
“You are grieving again. Ethan’s anniversary is coming. Stress can make people imagine things.”
Nora quietly activated the recording application on her phone.
“Why did you transfer Lily’s trust?”
“I didn’t.”
“The document was submitted from a Meridian account.”
“Then Meridian’s attorneys made a mistake.”
Nora looked directly at him.
“Ethan knew what you were doing.”
The color drained from Mason’s face.
“He left evidence.”
Mason stepped closer to the door.
“What evidence?”
Nora smiled faintly.
“Thank you for confirming there is something you are afraid I found.”
She closed the door.
Mason struck it once with his palm, but the security camera captured everything.
Minutes later, he sent a message.
You have no idea what Ethan was involved in.
Another followed.
Sign the agreement before Lily loses everything.
Nora forwarded both messages to Priya.
Priya called immediately.
“Do not respond again. We are no longer dealing with a property dispute.”
