Chapter 17: The Parallel Battle

The closure of her past only fueled the fire for Renata's future.

The next morning, Renata was back in her sunlit office in Roma, standing over a massive conference table covered in financial documents. Sofia Vargas sat at the table, looking significantly less terrified than she had a month ago. Valeria Montes stood beside Renata, holding a laser pointer.

"Arturo Vargas is a very careful man," Renata explained, tapping a complex flowchart on the whiteboard. "He didn't use crude offshore accounts like my ex-husband did. He used a labyrinth of corporate real estate holdings in Panama and Belize, funneled through dummy corporations registered in Delaware."

Sofia looked at the staggering numbers on the board. "He always told me we were barely breaking even. He said my credit card bills were bankrupting us."

"He lied," Valeria said fiercely. "He has over forty million dollars hidden in these trusts. And because he had you sign those 'routine tax documents' without letting you read them, he unknowingly tied your legal name to the holding companies. Which means..."

"Which means," Renata interrupted, a dangerous smile playing on her lips, "you legally own exactly half of the shadow empire he built."

Sofia gasped, covering her mouth. "If Arturo finds out we know this... he'll destroy me."

"He isn't going to find out," Renata said, leaning her hands flat on the table, her eyes locking onto Sofia's. "We are going to tell him. Tomorrow, at the mediation meeting. And we are going to do it in a way that leaves him absolutely paralyzed."

Sofia took a deep, trembling breath. The frightened woman in the oversized sweater was gone. In her place was a survivor ready to reclaim her life. "What do I need to do?"
