Chapter 12 - Cornered and Defeated

Eleanor’s lawyer immediately asked for a private recess to confer with his client.
They rushed out into the hallway, leaving their frantic whispers echoing through the glass doors.
My father reached over and proudly squeezed my shoulder.
We had successfully cornered them with their own web of lies and deceit.
Ten minutes later, they returned to the room looking utterly defeated.
Her lawyer stated that Eleanor was willing to drop her wrongful death lawsuit.
However, she still insisted that Chloe’s baby deserved a portion of the estate.
I leaned forward, resting my hands firmly on the handle of my wooden cane.
I told them that Mark’s estate was completely bankrupt due to his massive debts.
There was absolutely no money left for anyone to inherit, except the disputed insurance policy.
I proposed a final, non-negotiable settlement right then and there.
I would take the insurance money to pay off the fraudulent debts Mark had attached to my name.
Any remaining funds would be placed into a locked trust strictly for the unborn child.
Neither Chloe nor Eleanor would have access to a single penny of it until the child turned eighteen.
Eleanor would also sign a document admitting to her part in the financial fraud.
