Chapter 17 - Justice Served

As for Chloe, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy in the early spring.

Mr. Sterling informed me that she had named the baby after her own father, not Mark.

She had completely cut ties with Eleanor and moved out of the state to start over.

The trust fund was firmly established, silently waiting for the boy to grow up.

I never tried to contact her, and she never tried to contact me again.

It was the perfect, clean break that we both desperately needed.

One evening, my parents hosted a large family dinner to celebrate my thirtieth birthday.

The house was filled with laughter, good food, and warm conversation.

I looked around the busy dining room, feeling an overwhelming sense of profound gratitude.

I realized that the terrible car crash had not destroyed my life at all.

It had violently shattered an illusion that I had been trapped inside.

Mark's death had forced me to confront the ugly truth about my marriage.

It had forced me to stand up for myself and fight for my own survival.

My father raised his glass of wine for a toast, smiling proudly at me from across the table.

He toasted to my incredible resilience and to the bright future ahead.

I clinked my glass against his, feeling genuinely happy for the first time in years.
