Chapter 9 - Legal Warfare

Eleanor did not wait long to make her next aggressive move.
Three days later, I was served with a massive lawsuit right in my hospital bed.
Eleanor was attempting to sue me for wrongful death on behalf of Mark’s estate.
Her ridiculous claim stated that my "abusive behavior" had driven him to drink that night.
It was a blatant, desperate intimidation tactic designed to force me to drop the injunction.
Mr. Sterling simply laughed when he read the legal paperwork.
He explained that Eleanor had made a fatal mistake by opening this legal door.
By suing me, she opened herself up to a brutal discovery process.
We could now legally demand all of her financial records and communications.
We quickly filed a massive countersuit against Eleanor for emotional distress and fraud.
We also subpoenaed all of the text messages between Eleanor and Mark.
I spent the next two weeks focusing entirely on my brutal physical therapy.
Every time I wanted to give up, I thought about Eleanor’s smug, hateful face.
I channeled all of my pain and humiliation into the physical effort of walking again.
Finally, the day arrived for me to be discharged from the hospital.

I walked out the front doors using a cane, leaning heavily on my father’s arm.
I was battered, bruised, and widowed, but I was nowhere near defeated.
