Chapter 19 - A New Foundation

Selling the house was the ultimate liberating experience.
I used the remaining equity to buy a beautiful, modern loft right in the center of the city.
It was a space that was entirely my own, untouched by Mark's ghosts or Eleanor's judgment.
I decorated it with bright colors, modern art, and things that brought me absolute joy.
I adopted a rescue dog, a scruffy terrier mix who forced me to take long walks every morning.

I even started dating casually, though I was extremely protective of my heart and my peace.
I learned to trust my own instincts and never ignore red flags again.
The trauma of the hospital bed and the courtroom battles slowly faded into a distant memory.
I still had a small scar on my lip from where Eleanor had slapped me.
Whenever I looked at it in the mirror, I did not feel humiliation or pain anymore.
