Chapter 14 - The Coffee Shop Settlement

A week after the settlement, I asked Mr. Sterling to arrange a meeting with Chloe.

I did not want Eleanor or any lawyers present for this conversation.

We met at a quiet coffee shop near the financial district.

Chloe arrived looking exhausted, her pregnant belly now clearly visible under her coat.

She sat down nervously, staring at her hands and refusing to make eye contact.

I slid a copy of the new trust fund documents across the small wooden table.

I explained exactly how the remaining insurance money had been secured for her child.

I made it very clear that she would never be able to touch the principal amount.

However, the trust would pay for the child's medical expenses and future education.

Chloe looked up at me, tears streaming down her pale face.

She asked me why I was helping her after everything she had done to ruin my marriage.

I told her very calmly that I was not doing it for her at all.

I was doing it because an innocent child should not suffer for the sins of a terrible father.

I also told her that I knew about the text messages from the night of the crash.

I knew she was the reason he was distracted when he drove into that concrete divider.

Chloe gasped softly and covered her mouth, her eyes wide with absolute horror.
